Weston EMS has six good reasons to join

Weston Volunteer Emergency Medical Service (EMS) is recruiting new members. Could you be one of them?

Here are some things to consider:

1. Doing volunteer work in your community is a good thing.

Helping other people makes you feel good. It’s a fact. And it’s especially true if you are helping a family through a medical emergency.

Imagine you have a visiting relative and he or she falls down in your home. Everyone is nervous, including you. The EMTs arrive and you take a deep breath. Think how comforting it is to have people who know what to do in an emergency. You could be one of those people. And you would feel pretty good about it.

2. You don’t need a medical background.

It’s true that some of our members are nurses and doctors — but most of the current members do not have a medical background. The only prerequisite is a willingness to learn emergency care.

3. We will train you for free.

Weston EMS is starting a new class in January 2013. The class will meet on Tuesday and Thursday nights until spring. The class schedule follows the Weston school calendar. This really could fit into your already busy life.

4. You can design your own schedule.

You need to be on duty 36 hours a month, but you can pick when. You can be on duty during the day, at night or a combination of both — talk about flexible schedules!æ

5. You are setting a good example for your children.

There’s nothing better for your kids than to see volunteerism in action. They will learn so much from watching you give your time and energy to a good cause. It’s hard to impress your kids — but joining EMS will probably do it.

6. The Weston EMS members are really nice people.

Think about spending time with people who volunteer 36 hours a month helping people with medical emergencies. These are people you might like being around. And you could be one of them.
